Starting from April 2026, Japan Post has resumed shipping to the United States, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands for the following shipping methods: Avia, Avia-SM, Surface, and EMS, under updated conditions, with current support focused on higher-value parcels.
Why Shipping Was Restricted
In 2025, changes to U.S. import regulations removed the “de minimis” tax exemption for most goods entering the country. As a result, many shipments faced new requirements.
Due to these changes, shipping options to the destinations mentioned were temporarily limited.
Current Shipping Conditions
Japan Post shipping to the United States, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands is currently available through our service only when the total item value of the parcel exceeds $800.
This applies only to the following shipping methods: Avia, Avia-SM, Surface, and EMS.
This threshold is not an arbitrary limitation. Under the current regulatory and operational environment, supporting parcels at or above this value is the only viable option to ensure compliant and stable shipping to the U.S.
Parcels below this threshold are not eligible for shipment at the moment.
Food, beverages, cosmetics, and medical products can be shipped via International Mail only when the parcel’s declared value exceeds $800.
To account for exchange rate fluctuations, ZenMarket applies a buffer margin to the total parcel value when determining eligibility.
This ensures that parcels remain above the $800 threshold even if currency rates shift between purchase and shipping. As a result, customers may notice a slightly higher required value, bringing the total to a minimum of $820 to guarantee eligibility.
Customers planning larger purchases can continue to ship their items to the selected destinations without disruption, provided the total parcel value meets the current requirement.
This approach allows ZenMarket to maintain stable and compliant shipping operations while adapting to ongoing regulatory and market conditions.
Recommendation:
If you choose to leave some items at the warehouse or split them into multiple parcels, the total value of the packed parcel may fall below $800 after packing. In that case, the parcel may no longer be eligible for shipment.
To avoid this, we recommend to switch to the next available shipping method to send all items together
