We are pleased to announce that eligible Japan Post shipping methods are now available for parcels of any declared value being shipped to the United States.
ZenMarket has introduced a Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) system that allows applicable import duties to be prepaid before shipping. This officially removes the previous USD 800 parcel value limit, making it possible to use postal shipping for U.S.-bound parcels regardless of their declared value.
What Is DDP?
Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) is a shipping arrangement where import duties and taxes are calculated and prepaid at the time of shipping, ensuring smooth delivery without unexpected customs fees upon arrival.
DDP is mandatory for Japan Post shipments to the U.S. valued under US$2,500. Please note that the following territories are also treated as U.S. destinations, and the same DDP requirements apply:
- Guam
- Puerto Rico
- Virgin Islands (US)
What Does This Mean for Customers?
When creating a parcel for delivery to the United States, you can now review the available Japan Post and courier options and select the service that best suits your needs.
Available methods may still depend on factors such as:
- Parcel dimensions and weight
- The type and value of the contents
- Shipping restrictions for specific products
- Current carrier availability
Please check the shipping methods displayed during parcel creation for the options available for your parcel.
Why This Change Is Necessary
Japan Post previously introduced changes to the customs procedures applied to merchandise shipped to the United States. Postal shipments containing goods now require applicable duties to be prepaid through an approved system. Japan Post resumed accepting qualifying U.S.-bound mail under this duty-prepayment requirement in April 2026.
