What changes with the new tariffs?
As of early April 2025, parcels valued under 800 USD are exempt from reciprocal tariffs. However, this exemption is expected to change in the coming months, so we encourage you to keep an eye on the news.
For parcels that exceed 800 USD, an additional 24% tariff will apply. The total tariff will vary depending on the item category. For example, parcels that were previously subject to a 12% duty will now incur an additional 24%, resulting in a total of 36% on the declared value.
Following the announcement made on April 10, the application of the additional 24% tariff has been suspended for a period of 90 days. During this time, the standard tariff rate of 10% will apply. Please note that this is a temporary measure and may be subject to change. We recommend checking for updates regularly.
How does this impact me?
The new tariffs will apply to parcels entering the US from April 9th, 2025 onward that exceed 800 USD in value.
More details can be found in the official release from the White House.
Please note that even parcels valued at 800 USD or less may be subject to additional tariffs under certain conditions, such as:
- If the shipment is made to a corporate recipient;
- If multiple parcels are shipped to the same recipient within a short timeframe;
- If parcel contents suggest commercial use due to quantity or item type.
Also, because the USD-JPY exchange rate is volatile, even carefully packed parcels might exceed the 800 USD threshold by the time they are processed by US customs.
Can I lower the declared value to fit under the de minimis limit?
Unfortunately, we are unable to lower declared values.
