When the capital was moved from Nara to Kyoto, the Tobatsu Bisyamonten statue was enshrined on top of the main gate, known as the Rajo-mon. This statue is owned by Toji Temple, which is famous for its five-story pagoda, a symbol of Kyoto, and is designated as a national treasure.
During the Tang Dynasty, a castle in the Western Region of China * was attacked, which then Bisyamonten appeared and dispersed the enemies.
Strong beliefs in Tobatsu Bisyamonten were developed over this legend, which is why the tall crown and chain-linked armor have strong Western characteristics.
The pose of Tobatsu Bisyamonten standing on the palm of Chitennyo, the earth goddess, flanked by two demons is also unique.
