Facing many odds, Maritime English teachers have to navigate away from the safe grounds of general English to unveil the obscurity of life at sea. Hence, YouTube could be the ultimate solution to fulfill the required learning outcomes.The book at hand studies the effect of using Authentic YouTube videos as an effective method to motivate ESP students and improve their academic achievement in vocabulary and structure. Thirty-six cadets studying Maritime English have been divided into two groups, a control group and an experimental group of seventeen students. For ten weeks, the control group has received traditional instruction based on the textbook while instruction for the experimental group has been supplemented by ten extra-curricular task sheets based on selected authentic videos from YouTube. Findings suggest that the treatment has improved both the achievement and motivation of the participants of the experimental group.
