2017 Amiibo
It's coming to the end of 2017, and it's been an exciting year for amiibo. Over 36 separate amiibo figures, plus a set of amiibo cards were released in Japan.
January 19th, 2017 - Yarn Poochy
The year started off with a must-have for all Nintendo fans, Yarn Poochy. Many fans felt Poochy was missing from the first Yoshi's Wolly World Wii U game. Now, Poochy can finally be alongside the other 4 previously released yarn amiibo.
February 2nd, 2017 - Qbby (Japan Exclusive)
BoxBoy returned on the 3DS for the 3rd time (in Japan) with a game called Goodbye! BoxBoy! It was released in a beautiful box which included the game, a soundtrack and the Qbby amiibo! It's definitely, a must-have for any amiibo collector.
March 3rd, 2017 - The Legend of Zelda BOTW (part 1)
Where do we begin? Part 1 consisted of Link (Rider), Link (Archer), Bokoblin, Zelda, and Guardian. Even way before the release of BOTW, everyone was eager to see the amiibo released, and Nintendo did not let them down. All 5 amiibo are absolutely beautiful, high in quality, and the guardian even has movable parts!
If you are still having trouble finding these amiibos, then shopping from Japan may be your answer.
March 30th, 2017 - Mario Sports Superstars Cards
As amiibo fans, we weren't too intrigued by these cards. Amiibo cards work well with series like Animal Crossing, but we aren't too sure about party/casual games. What do you think? Do you prefer having cards over the usual figures?
May 20th, 2017 - Fire Emblem (Celica & Alm)
Nintendo shocked the whole Fire Emblem fandom by releasing a new Fire Emblem game, and two high-quality realistic amiibo. After the Fire Emblem app, it's nice to see Nintendo supporting lesser known series. Although these two characters were not the ones we were suspecting, the quality made up for it.
June 22nd, 2017 - The 3 Links
Even after the Legend of Zelda's 30th anniversary, there was a void left in our amiibo collections. Then Nintendo made it up to us by releasing 3 new Links from Skyward Sword, Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess. What's your favorite amiibo Link?
July 13th, 2017 - Pikmin
We may have all been waiting for Pikmin 4, which has been rumored to be in the making since July 2015. But, instead, Nintendo released Hey! Pikmin, a brand new adventure game, along with the first Pikmin series amiibo.
July 21st, 2017 - Splatoon 2 & Super Smash Bros.
Due to the popularity of Splatoon in Japan, these amiibos were almost impossible to find for the first couple of months. In fact, Splatoon 2 sold over half a million copies in Japan alone in the first three days, outselling Zelda Breath of the Wild. Japan clearly loves Splatoon.
As for the amiibo, the high-gloss finish, and vibrancy outshine out the original Splatoon amiibo to shame. These are absolutely stunning.
Almost 3 years after the first-ever Super Smash Bros. amiibo, fans can finally complete their collection. Although Nintendo never officially announced the true reason for having P1 and P2 variations, it's nice to be able to choose from different dynamic poses and colors. Overall, the amiibo are high-quality, and we are looking forward to what's to come in the future.
September 15th, 2017 - Samus Aran & Metroid
This year, Nintendo surprised us all with not one, but two Metroid games. Plus, two brand new amiibo - which none of us saw coming. The Metroid and Samus amiibo, look remarkable and are a major upgrade from the Super Smash Bros. versions. Nintendo really did spoil us with Metroid this year.
September 28th, 2017 - Fire Emblem (Tiki & Chrom)
These two additions to the Fire Emblem series were available in Japan almost a whole month before America. Unlike, the other two Nintendo released earlier this year, these were the ones Fire Emblem fans were expecting. Nintendo definitely seems to be listening to their community a lot more this year.
October 5th, 2017 - Goomba & Koopa
As Goomba and Koopa are such iconic enemies, we were surprised these weren't released sooner. The simple design is a nice touch for these classic characters, and the release continued to build up our excitement for Super Mario Odyssey.
October 27th, 2017 - Super Mario Odyssey
We doubt anyone expected these wedding amiibo, nevertheless they are an excellent twist on the usual Mario series amiibo. They all look dapper, and the pearl white color is absolutely gorgeous. Definitely one of our favorites from this year's amiibo lineup.
Due to the number of different clothes Mario has in Odyssey, the possible future amiibos are endless. Which costume would you like to see next as an amiibo?
November 10th, 2017 - The Legend of Zelda BOTW (part 2)
At E3 when Nintendo announced the Champions would be getting their own figure, most Nintendo fans were shocked. Although we wanted them, we didn't expect Nintendo to deliver so fast. But as BOTW won the game of the year at the 2017 Game Awards, it's completely understandable. All we want now is an amiibo of Link on Master Cycle Zero.
